2 years on, still going strong

4 Sep

Yesterday (Monday) marked the start of my 3rd year in post at Ascension Church in Custom House. And what a 2 years it has been! Clergy suspensions, arrests, death of a vicar, internal church politics almost tearing the church apart and then forming a vision by which to proceed and selecting a new vicar. I could go into more detail, but that would potentially open up old wounds that have already started to heal, which would do no one any good! Suffice it to say that these past 2 years have been a strain filled with pockets of joy.

Interestingly, the reading in the UCI Word For Today for yesterday focusses on “God is working in your situation”, taking Ephesians 1:11 as it’s lead. Whilst I don’t hold the those that interpret this to mean predestination (which, amusingly enough, I have been having a debate about in the last few days) the part at the end talks about God working all things to His will certainly ring true as I look back at my first 2 years here. As is usually the case, we very rarely recognise this at the time things are going on!

I was concerned with how it started that you might have made a mistake but well done in how you moved on to the positive.
