Youthwork Conference 2014 #YC14 – Saturday Big Room PM

15 Nov

Ok, so here’s the bit that I get to be the grumpy old man as Stance from YFC lead those that “want to” in some dance moves.
Yep, that’s right, I am NOT joining in!

We then have an advert from Cris Rogers and another guy (I didn’t catch his name) for a residential gathering called The Pursuit, 65 hours of continuous worship event seeking God and getting those who have signed on to go to be the people that lead the worship and do the teaching.

Finally, we are told about the plans for Youthwork Conference 2015, a residential at a centre just outside Swindon that can take up to 1000 people. The cost will include accommodation, food and the conference itself.

Then Beth Croft came out to lead us in worship before Andy Croft comes to speak to us.

Andy starts by telling us a Christmas shopping story. The punchline is that he went looking for something that didn’t exist. He goes on to point out that we often try to find an instant solution and they do not exist.
He relates this to the desire for relationships in young people and all the quick fixes the look to for intimacy or satisfaction.
He says he is more and more convinced that we have the answer for them, in God.
We need to find whatever method we can to reach them with that message!
Just because people are broken doesn’t mean they aren’t loved. (Story of the broken doll and the little girl)
Andy points out that when we spend time with people we can become like them. In the same way, but more so, when we spend time with God we become more like Him. As a result we change and then we can help bring change in our young people, be a conduit for it.
And we don’t need to go when we are fixed, nor do we need to wait to send our young people once they are fixed. God goes with us along the way!
If we harvest in our own power we harvest stubble. If we harvest in God’s power we can reap a bountiful harvest.
